AERIAL DRAGONFLY MOVEMENT STUDIO
Frequently asked questions
We believe that no one discipline is any easier or more difficult than another. Each modality offers its own unique opportunities and challenges. The best modality for you depends on your specific aerial interests and goals! We would recommend reading about our different modalities and selecting the one you feel most drawn towards. At your first lesson, we encourage you to ask questions about our offerings. Many of our instructors cross train on a variety of apparatuses and can answer your questions or offer feedback based on your preferences.
We currently accept students eight years of age and older for private lessons. Younger students may be accommodated on a case by case basis. Please email us for more details. Parents must accompany all minors in order to sign waivers on their behalf! If a parent or guardian cannot attend the studio in person, the waiver may be printed and signed prior to the class with pre-approval from studio management. When booking, please select the "Kids" private lesson option for students between the ages of 8-18 so that you are paired with one of our instructors experienced working with kids.
There is no weight limit or weight restriction for any of our modalities. All of our equipment is rated to support well over 2,000lbs and often, significantly more. We strongly believe that aerial is for everybody and would love to help you achieve your aerial goals! If you have specific concerns or considerations you would like us to be aware of, please reach out to us or discuss with your instructor, so that we may determine the safest and most comfortable path forward for you.
For aerial training, please wear comfortable form fitting clothing that covers your armpits and the backs of your knees. Yoga pants, leggings, leotards, unitards, etc are ideal. For pole training, leggings or shorts and a tank top or t shirt are appropriate. Avoid clothes with zippers or buttons that can cause damage to or catch on the equipment. Avoid wearing lotion/oils when training, as it can interfere with grip. We would recommend removing any exposed jewelry prior to arrival at the studio.
Feel free to bring any grip products you may like, but don't worry if you don't have any since the studio has grip aids you can use. We would also recommend bringing bottled water or other hydrating drink.
You are required to sign our waiver to participate in any activities at Aerial Dragonfly Movement Studio. Any individual who refuses to sign a waiver will not be allowed to participate in sessions. For minors, please be aware that only a legal parent or guardian must sign on behalf of their own child. If a parent is not present, we can not legally allow the child to take part in an event or session.
We do have an affiliate program with Vertical Art Dance where students can receive a 5% discount on equipment using our code, "aerialdragonfly-affiliate". We typically recommend between 12-15 yards of fabric for aerial silks, or 7-8 yards for aerial hammocks. If you plan to bring your own fabrics, we request that you purchase a Rescue 8 (for Silks) or Hollow Blocks (for Hammocks) to facilitate ease of rigging for our staff. Similarly, if you plan to bring your own lyra, please keep your spansets attached. If using your equipment in the studio, please label it with your name (when possible). Please contact us at info@aerialdragonfly.com with any rigging questions. We would be happy to advise you.
If you are more than 15 minutes late to your session, you will not be admitted nor will you receive a refund. If you anticipate that you will be a few minutes late to your session, please notify us via email, or contacting your instructor directly.
We can accommodate up to 10–12 participants per group session, depending on the session type. However, for safety and liability reasons, it is standard practice for students to share apparatuses. Our insurance policy limits the number of students who can be airborne at the same time under the supervision of a single instructor, and we must strictly adhere to the required student-to-instructor ratio.
Open studio (or open gym) sessions are designated practice times for current students to review and reinforce skills that have already been taught in group classes or private lessons. These sessions are not meant for learning new material independently or attempting movements outside of the current Aerial Dragonfly curriculum.
For safety reasons, any flow or skill being practiced that does not align with what has been previously taught will be stopped immediately. The student may be asked to leave the session and encouraged to revisit that movement with their instructor in a supervised setting. This policy ensures a safe and respectful environment for everyone sharing the space.
